gwalchmai Posted 3 December , 2017 Posted 3 December , 2017 Does anyone have any pictures and or sizes of the dressing/bandage packs kept in the field medical companion and field surgical haversack. They are described thus - Bandages, loose woven, compressed 3 in wide 12 Bandages, triangular, compressed 4 Bandages, loose woven, compressed, 3 in 12 Bandages, triangular Gauze, Double Cyanide, compressed, in 2 ½ yard packets 15 yards 4
gwalchmai Posted 3 December , 2017 Author Posted 3 December , 2017 the pics were excellent, but as they are drawings I cannot make out the packaging and wording on the bandage items
seaJane Posted 3 December , 2017 Posted 3 December , 2017 Might also be worth checking the Wellcome images library https://wellcomelibrary.org/search-the-catalogues/search-images
gwalchmai Posted 15 December , 2017 Author Posted 15 December , 2017 No joy there. Im waiting for some news from the army medic museum but it is astonishing that I cannot seem to find anything on the web :). Non British stuff yes, field and shell dressings yes, even double cyanide gauze but no joy with bog standard army bandages
seaJane Posted 16 December , 2017 Posted 16 December , 2017 I used to have a field dressing in my desk filing cabinet but suspect that it was WW2....

gwalchmai Posted 18 December , 2017 Author Posted 18 December , 2017 Now it says the field companion is hide covered - which I assume disappears as the war gets going. But hide covered what? I have seen pics of ones that are canvas covered metal boxes and some that claim to be ww1 but are wicker covered with canvas - thoughts?
Wexflyer Posted 18 December , 2017 Posted 18 December , 2017 Trivia: Gamgee apparently inspired the name of the "Lord of the Rings" character...
gwalchmai Posted 23 December , 2017 Author Posted 23 December , 2017 Got those, but thank you for looking
