Does any avid collector already have the 100 headstones from this cemetery (I only want one!)

Or is anyone going there soon  - - - - -  or is it within easy reach of any local French volunteers?

Any help would be appreciated!

I think your man might be the grave at the right end of the front row in the centre of this photo.  Unfortunately, the name is indistinct.  Is that a DLI headstone?  Your man is listed as being at 1. C. 20 which seems to fit as we were visiting one of my wife's "48" from the Manchester & County Bank who is buried at 1. D. 19 (one row behind and one row to the left of your man?).  I have some more, general photos of the cemetery and a few specifics, mainly Cheshire guys, as well as our man, E H Crowther from 2 East Lancs.  PM me with your email address if you are interested.

BillyH - who are you looking for?

Hi thetrenchat22,

John Carter is the first cousin of my great grandfather. I can tell you a (little) bit more about him if you want. Did you ever find any more info about him? I know his name is on the memorial in Stoak church but I have yet to go see it.

Thanks also to Don Regiano for the photo.

Attached is John’s obituary, published in the Chester Chronicle on 21st December 1918. Looks like John’s mother waited 7 months for confirmation of John’s death.

Garth,

thank you for your post, I did my research over 20 years ago.

Apart from i know that he was with RAMC before the DLI.

If you have anything else, please let me know.

Here is a photo of the Memorial in the church and his details appear on his parents grave in Stoak
