Mat McLachlan Posted 23 December , 2004 Share Posted 23 December , 2004 I've come across an old army poncho and I'm trying to work out if it is WWI-era. It's one of those rubberised-material ones that doubles as a ground sheet. I can't find a date on it, and it's green instead of the brown I've seen on WWI examples. Can anyone give me a clue as to how I might date it? Did we use these in WWII? Please see the photo below. All help much appreciated. Cheers, Mat

johnreed Posted 23 December , 2004 Share Posted 23 December , 2004 It is like the one I was issued with when I joined the army in 1964, it is WWII + vintage. John
bkristof Posted 23 December , 2004 Share Posted 23 December , 2004 the flap on the collar can tell us if it is WW1 or not.
T8HANTS Posted 23 December , 2004 Share Posted 23 December , 2004 I think the green colour makes it almost certainly late WWII and post war. Earlier and the colour would have been brown. Does it have four big green buttons about 25mm in diameter to close it? Again this would indicate a late date.
Mat McLachlan Posted 24 December , 2004 Author Share Posted 24 December , 2004 It has four buttons as you describe but they are brown, not green.
