Remembered Today:

Port(s) of embarkation for German POWs

Morning all,

Can anyone tell me if there was a main port of embarkation for German prisoners being transported to England? I get the impression that Calais was mainly used for transportation of supplies rather than personnel but I could be wrong.

Cheers,

The Germans debriefed returning POWs repatriated on medical grounds, and I have translated a number of those debriefings over the years.  Not all of them named their port of embarkation, but those who did mentioned Le Havre and Boulogne.   Caveat, however, as these POWs were all wounded, and unwounded POWs may have gone via other ports.

Many thanks Mick, have to say the translated debriefings you mention sound very interesting.
