John_Hartley Posted 22 September , 2017 Share Posted 22 September , 2017 I researched the Field Bakery units for my book Bully Beef & Biscuits. I've no mention of the 11th in my notes which would suggest I couldnt find a diary either. Relatively few of the Bakery, or Butchery, diaries appear to have survived. veklee Posted 3 October , 2017 Author Share Posted 3 October , 2017 On the evening of December 22, Boulogne suffered the misfortune of experiencing an unheralded air-raid. It occurred early in the evening while there were many people on the streets. In the brief interval of three minutes, bombs had been dropped at several points in the Basin Loubet and along Rue Constantine. On the latter thoroughfare, there were many casualties, among them men, women and children. The personnel of Base Hospital No. 5 and No. 2 Canadian Hospital were kept busy long into the night caring for the wounded and removing the dead from the streets. Though this was one of the briefest raids on the Boulonnais, it proved to be one of the most costly in both lives and property. ne ?
veklee Posted 3 October , 2017 Author Share Posted 3 October , 2017 The threat of air raids continued at their new site and the casino was an especially easy target. On 22 December 1917, bombers hit the Medical Stores, the Base’s bakery and other sites killing 52 people and wounding
