carlosrocha Posted 4 September , 2017 Share Posted 4 September , 2017 Hi all I wonder if someone can help. An archaeological group I volunteer with, Breaking Ground Heritage, are carrying out an excavation 'somewhere in the UK' (cant say anything til the dig is over). There are some metal structures but no one knows what they are. Pic enclosed if anyone has any clues. Thank you Carlos

NigelS Posted 4 September , 2017 Share Posted 4 September , 2017 Looks like an WWII Allan-Williams turret in kit form http://www.pillbox-study-group.org.uk/advanced-pillbox-designs/part-1-a-n/allan-williams-turret/ & https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_hardened_field_defences_of_World_War_II#Allan_Williams_Turret NigelS
carlosrocha Posted 4 September , 2017 Author Share Posted 4 September , 2017 Thanks both Here's another pic of one where the surrounding ground has been cleared to expose one side. Not sure but do you think the AW turrets are a bit too 'squat' to match one of these? Opinions welcome! Carlos
