Malcolm Linham Posted 4 September , 2017 Share Posted 4 September , 2017 I understand from my local newspaper that there is to be a Artillery salute to commemorate the end of the battle of Passchendale on November 10th at Fort Seclin near Lille it's reported that 14 Great war artillery pieces currently being restored by by John Slough of London will fire 100 rounds between them. Does anybody know how many guns survive in a usable condition, Kings Troop RHA have at least six ( do they have a spare ?) there were two at the Great Dorset Steam Fair that I saw. wmfinch Posted 16 September , 2017 Share Posted 16 September , 2017 I'm sorry I don't know the answer, but I wonder if the Fire Power Museum (which is currently closed awaiting relocation) have anything to do with it. There was a 4.5 inch howitzer on display at Woolwich before it closed. V/R Wayne Finch
Malcolm Linham Posted 16 September , 2017 Author Share Posted 16 September , 2017 Wayne Thank you for that thought, it's one of my regrets never getting to Fire Power. Best wishes Malcolm
Medaler Posted 17 September , 2017 Share Posted 17 September , 2017 (edited) Is it just British artillery? - I think the French may have the odd 75 kicking about. I hope somebody films this event, it would make very interesting viewing. Regards, Mike Edited 17 September , 2017 by Medaler Spelling - AGAIN! Malcolm Linham Posted 17 September , 2017 Author Share Posted 17 September , 2017 Mike That's an interesting point because it was a regional English newspaper , I naturally assumed that it was all British artillery but of course French 75's would make a lot of sense.
