JustinL Posted 21 December , 2004 Share Posted 21 December , 2004 Can anybody identify the uniform being worn by my great-uncle, Lionel Arthur Levy, in the picture below? According to his MIC and the list of servicemen from his former school, he enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers. The RF cap badge can be clearly seen. However, does the tie and breeches imply that this is not a private's uniform? But then where is the Sam Browne belt? I know that the Cadet L.A. Levy gained a commission in the 6th Service Battalon, DCLI. Is this the unifrom of an Officer Training Battalion perhaps? I would appreciate your help. Merry Christmas to you all. BeppoSapone Posted 21 December , 2004 Share Posted 21 December , 2004 He is also wearing an officers tunic, collar and tie. Other ranks had a jacket buttoned to the throat. His hat seems to have a white band around it which, I believe was worn by officer cadets
Muerrisch Posted 21 December , 2004 Share Posted 21 December , 2004 This may well be a Passing Out Parade shot, the white band about to be discarded and 2Lt badges put up. Note also the ash-plant stick.
max7474 Posted 21 December , 2004 Share Posted 21 December , 2004 Definately officer cadet. Officers uniform and acroutements with the officer cadet white hat band.
PhilB Posted 21 December , 2004 Share Posted 21 December , 2004 If he`d been commissioned, he`d have the DCLI capbadge? The uniform is a bit officerish for a cadet though? Phil B
Paul Reed Posted 21 December , 2004 Share Posted 21 December , 2004 Being a cadet he is not yet commissioned, so wears the badge of the unit he had been with as an OR.
JustinL Posted 22 December , 2004 Author Share Posted 22 December , 2004 Thanks, guys, for the well-informed responses. Do any of you anything about the workings of the OTBs? I assume that Lionel must have been attached to London-based battalion. Were the battalions run by the 'local' county regiment? Merry Christmas to you all, and prosperity and good health for 2005.
