barney5042 Posted 12 August , 2017 Share Posted 12 August , 2017 I've served ancestry.co.uk and nationalarchives.gov.uk but, so far, have been unable to find the War Diary for the 1st Garrison Battalion King's (Liverpool) Regiment. I only can find the 1st Battalion King's (Liverpool) Regiment. The 1st served in France while the 1st Garrison served in Egypt. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong in my search. Can anyone help? Thanks!
sotonmate Posted 12 August , 2017 Share Posted 12 August , 2017 Garrison Battalions were usually a part of Lines of Communication Troops and if you search the Kew database Discovery for Lines of Communication Troops Egypt there will be many entries, a handful of which state which Garrison Battalions were posted. None for the KLR though ! There are some under WO95/4732 and 4719 and named ( Devons/Essex/Cheshires/RB/Northants/West Indies) and I am guessing that just maybe KLR is just shown as Lof C Troops without it's title being displayed, it did arrive in Sept 1915 after all (acc.to LLT). barney5042 Posted 12 August , 2017 Author Share Posted 12 August , 2017 Thanks, that explains a lot. I was able to find one entry for January-February 1918: http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7358505 Unfortunately, it's the only one I could find.
