David_Underdown Posted 10 August , 2017 Share Posted 10 August , 2017 We're going to be ringing a full peal in memory of George William Waylen Honeyball at St Mary's, Putney on Wednesday 16 August 2017, the centenary of his death in the Battle of Langemarck while he was serving with 7th Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers (having been transferred from the East Surreys). He (and his father) were both ringers at St Mary's and rang in the first local band peal in 1912. There will be a small display at the base of the tower giving details of his life and service, and what Putney was like when the family lived there. This display will be going up tomorrow, 11 August, and will remain in place until the end of the month. On 16 August George will be commemorated during the regular Wednesday communion service which begins at 12:30, this will be followed at 13:15 by a short talk by Alan Regin, Steward of the rolls of honour of the Central Council for Church Bell Ringers, followed by the peal. The peal should take about 3 hours so will probably run until 16:30 or so. David_Underdown Posted 12 August , 2017 Author Share Posted 12 August , 2017 Lest anyone tries to take a look tomorrow, while we worked out the layout for the display boards on Friday, they won't actually be in place until the start of next week.
