A Great Nephew of My Great Great Great Grandfather was Arthur Coppin

Lincolnshire Regiment, 1412 Pte, 240098 Sjt, then 2Lt Seniority Date:29/05/1918, MM & Bar & 15 star trio

 

Got MIC & Roll, also got both London & Edinburgh Gazette entries for MM (Somme 1/7/16 - See Linc Regt History page 172) -        & Bar Gazetted 14/8/17, can't find any service record so no attestation date but obviously 1915 or earlier due to Star.

Can't find Gazette for his commission as 2Lt

Also if you look at the Lincs Regt History in the Awards & honours he is noted as H. Coppin MM & Bar

Possible transcription error, between H and A?  I wondered if it was confusion with his brother Harry, but he seems to have had his arm amputated in 1917 after an accident at the Sheaf Ironworks.

 

There's a mention in the Boston Guardian (16/10/1915) of Arthur being home on leave, having been wounded in the leg by a bullet at Ypres on 25/7/1915.

Still reading through the Lincs Regt History, Still on the Somme, in almost the same place in1917 as they were in 1916

Then have the diaries to go through.

Week off next week might help after a weekend visit to the wrinklies.

I know this says Yeomanry but are you sure this officer's service record is not related? I haven't checked army lists
