tonycad Posted 17 December , 2004 Share Posted 17 December , 2004 I would be grateful if any Pals could identify this small piece of equipment I picked up at High Wood some time ago. It is 18mm in diameter and 13mm high. The groove through it height is 5mm wide and 13mm long. There is a hole 5mm in diameter which runs through the centre, through which a spindle holds the small piece in the picture, in the groove. The small holein the top, which can just be seen next to the groove, is 10mm deep. The piece appears to bemade of bronze, and one of the flat sides is stamped - 2000, PAT, 7**27 Any ideas. tonycad Posted 19 December , 2004 Author Share Posted 19 December , 2004 Although found near High Wood, this piece of equipment may not be of WW1 vintage, but from the setting and its construction I think it is. I know I set Pals a difficult poser, but I would be grateful if you let me have your best guess. For what it is worth, my best guess is that it is part of the priming mechanism of a German stick grenade, or part of the mechanism of a machine gun. Max Poilu Posted 19 December , 2004 Share Posted 19 December , 2004 It's a puzzler indeed but it is nothing to do with a German stick grenade.
MikB Posted 19 December , 2004 Share Posted 19 December , 2004 Could the larger bit be one of the bolsters from a bayonet or knife handle? Regards, MikB
