thetrenchrat22 Posted 17 April , 2017 Share Posted 17 April , 2017 If the remains of a Soldier was found on the battlefield wrapped in a groundsheet which carried his number on it, would the IWGC have accepted this as a form of identification of the body even if there were no other forms of identification found. I know from looking at the CWGC website I have noticed that bodies have been identified by a disc, by a knife, spoon, fork, personal papers found on the body and a cross already on the grave etc. I'm I right in thinking in that a body was wrapped in there own groundsheet before being buried and does this appear in any orders etc.
micks Posted 17 April , 2017 Share Posted 17 April , 2017 Trenchrat Yes the IWGC did except ground sheet numbers as a form of identification. However there are situations where a name has been replaced by the words " Still Alive " If you were to submit a case to the CWGC today you would need much stronger evidence.
