Remembered Today:

Is this Cape Town?

Hi forum members

I am researching my great uncle, Pte Ashley Peacock, a member of the 13th battalion AIF who served on the Western Front. He returned to Australia on 19 Jun 1919 on HMAT Militiades. The attached photograph is from his album. He was definitely not in Cape Town on 9 June 1919, but he would have been soon after. I would be grateful if anyone can identify the location of the scene in the photograph.  Also, does anyone know how I can determine the dates the troopship was in Cape Town on his trip home; and it's route?

Kind regards

Karen

Hi Ray,

The two arches look a bit different to me. The middle arch is much narrower in your image than in the OP, and the columns are different too.

Was there another arch in Cape Town I wonder?
