mva Posted 2 April , 2017 Share Posted 2 April , 2017 Rededication ceremony for 2nd Lieutenant Lawrence Paul Strawson – CWGC Calonne Communal Cemetery, Belgium There will be a rededication service at CWGC Calonne Communal Cemetery, Belgium on Tuesday 11 April 2017. The ceremony is being held to recognise that, following the presentation of research supported by evidence, a casualty originally buried as an Unknown British Officer has now been identified. The rededication ceremony will recognise that Grave 10, Row E at Calonne Communal Cemetery has now been identified as the final resting place of 2nd Lieutenant Lawrence Paul Strawson of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and his grave has been marked accordingly. Previously, 2nd Lieutenant Strawson was commemorated on the Dunkirk Memorial as having no known grave. 2nd Lieutenant Strawson was killed on 21 May 1940, fighting with his regiment to ensure the evacuation of British and French troops from Dunkirk. The service has been organised by the Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre and will be attended by British Defence staff, regimental representatives and local dignitaries. Rededication ceremony for Lieutenant William Frederick MacHutchison – CWGC Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery, France There will be a rededication service at CWGC Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery, France on Wednesday 12 April 2017. The ceremony is being held to recognise that, following the presentation of research supported by evidence, a casualty originally buried as an Unknown British Officer has now been identified. The rededication ceremony will recognise that Plot XIX, Row A, Grave 6 at Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery has now been identified as the final resting place of Lieutenant MacHutchison of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers and his grave has now been marked accordingly. Previously, Lieutenant MacHutchison was commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial as having no known grave. Lieutenant MacHutchison died between the 27-29 March 1918, during the German Spring Offensive at a Field Ambulance Station in Lamotte-en-Santerre, France. The service has been organised by the Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre and will be attended by British Defence staff, regimental representatives and local dignitaries. Ceremony for four members of the 1st/7th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment – CWGC Hebuterne Military Cemetery, France There will be a ceremony at CWGC Hebuterne Military Cemetery, France on Wednesday 12 April 2017 for four members of the 1st/7th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment: Private (Pte) Reuben Kimberley Pte Walter Jennings Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) James Thomas Spencer Pte Joseph Turton Cleaver As a result of evidence presented to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, it is now known that they are buried somewhere within Hebuterne Military Cemetery, although the exact location is not known. A “Special Memorial” headstone for each casualty is to be rededicated to their memory on 12 April 2017. All four soldiers died on 1 July 1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme. The 1st/7th Battalion was one of four territorial battalions that made up the 143rd Brigade of the 48th (South Midlands) Division. They were engaged in various actions on the Western Front, including the Battle of Albert (1 – 13 July 1916), which was two weeks of Anglo-French offensive operations in the Battle of the Somme. Moonraker It has been discussed somewhere before but I have neither the time nor inclination to look it up. Something to do with visiting pubs in the Home Counties or similar, IIRC.
