Drummy Posted 15 December , 2004 Share Posted 15 December , 2004 Does anybody know if the CWGC now look after the graves of British & Imperial troops who died during the South African War 1899-1902 ? If so, do they hold an overall register of casualties and burial places. Likewise what about British Military graves from other earlier conflicts in South Africa? Terry Denham Posted 15 December , 2004 Share Posted 15 December , 2004 Drummy British graves overseas from non-world war conflicts are the responsibility of the MoD (excluding those in private graves). They are not the responsibility of CWGC. However, the MoD do contract CWGC to care for most of these graves overseas. They are known as Non-World War Graves in CWGC Care. CWGC do record these graves in their database and I can supply you with info on these. Having said all that, I can tell you that no graves in South Africa from pre-WW1 conflicts fall into this category and none appear in the CWGC lists. They are probably in the care of local authorities.
