Soren Posted 15 December , 2004 Share Posted 15 December , 2004 Hello All, Whilst touring Bedford Hse Cemetary, one headstone grabbed my attention: Name: EDMONDS Initials: C P Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Private Regiment: Welsh Regiment Unit Text: 1st Bn. Date of Death: 20/02/1915 Service No: 14958 Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: Enclosure No.4 VII. AA. 49. Cemetery: BEDFORD HOUSE CEMETERY This chap was in the same regt as my Gt Uncle who is on the Menin Gate, and died in the same day. Gt Uncle: Pte 10312 Patrick Thomas Staunton 10312, 1st Bn Welsh Regt, died Ypres Saturday 20th Feb 1915. From memory, I understood that 95 soldiers of thw Welch Regt died and were missing on that day. The Germans had stormed a trench known as Y trench, when a couter-attack was launched they were repelled, but without further casualties. I thought they were all missing, but then I suppose that they may have been buried and then the war ravaged the land they were laid to rest in??
