Remembered Today:

Visit to Bouzincourt tunnels

Just back from the Somme and one of the highlights was a tour down the ancient tunnel system which has around 1000 pieces of graffiti from WW1 written or carved in to the walls.

Its a great experience but not for the faint hearted as you have to duck and weave around the corners but really worthwhile.

You have to contact Dave Platt daveplatt.dp@googlemail.com who runs the B&B at www.beaumonthamelview.com and his knowledge and enthusiaism really add to the adventure!

The tunnels  also have artifacts that were left in the system to add to the atmosphere and although supplied with hard hats need to bring your own torches.

We also experienced complete darkness and what it was like to move around in candlelight only.

Even sang Happy birthday to Compton Clive by Candlelight down the tunnel!

A true WW1 experience not spoiled yet by commercialism.

Do not miss.

Tony
