seaJane Posted 30 January , 2017 Share Posted 30 January , 2017 (edited) Australian Friend is visiting next year and we are discussing, along with my other half, visiting France and Belgium. The sites in the thread title have been chosen for the following reasons: AF would like to visit the palace at Versailles AF has an interest in Manfred von Richthofen and would be interested to visit Vaux-sur-Somme where he was shot down. Other half's great-uncle, Clive Halliburton Thorpe, is buried in Tournai. http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/478767/THORPE, C H In the interests of not driving all the way, I am half-thinking of taking the Eurostar to Paris, hiring a car in Paris and using it to see Versailles, Vaux, and Tournai before depositing the car at Lille and picking up the homeward Eurostar there. All this is very tentative, and there is an even more tentative possible addition of an extension, viz. Lille-Bruxelles by Eurostar and ICE to Frankfurt, in order to visit Richthofen's burial-place at Wiesbaden. However AF, having Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, is well aware that the Versailles-Tournai loop may be all that's manageable. Any comments or useful suggestions? Addition: We'd probably base ourselves at Amiens for Vaux - I want to see the cathedral. Edited 31 January , 2017 by seaJane Addition
