Remembered Today:

Interpreting MIC Code

I have my grandfather's MIC details - Sgt Samuel Jones RGA, Sgt 8387.

He was the No 1 on a 4.7 inch gun of 122 Hy Bty at the 2nd Battle of Ypres

There are two references in the remarks section:

NW/9/2773 - I think this denotes served in NW France?

and

E/82693/2 - not sure what this means [if anything], can anyone help please?

I know he is mentioned in the Bde War Diary "recommended that his services be placed on record" for work during April 1915 - no mention elsewhere of an MID. The War Diary also contains a separate list of citations, including his subsequent action on 8 May 1915 [when he was killed]. One of the 5 named was awarded a DCM and a second man later received a DCM, which referred back to this citation.

The two references are to the medal rolls, one is the reference for his 1914/15 Star and the other is for his War & Victory Medals.

They aren't Medal Roll references. These sort of notes appear quite commonly in the remarks box, and probably relate to correspondence sent or recieved. Unfortunately they don't provide any useful information.
