ww1/2? Trench Waders/Fug style rubberised canvas jute soled boots.

Hi folks,

 

Another car boot find, most likely WW2 however thought i'd give this a shot as they have a similar style to the FUG RFC boots i've read about. If anyone can let me know if they have any clue what they might be i'd be eternally grateful.

My memory may be inaccurate but I seem to recall reading somewhere that German airship crews had rope-soled boots to avoid creating static electricity and hence sparks. Am just wondering if these might be the British equivalent.

Might they be something to do with munitions workers? The soles seem unlikey to be hard wearing  enough to be designed for long term external work
