Guest meggsie Posted 20 November , 2016 Share Posted 20 November , 2016 This is my first posting on this forum, so I hope that I have chosen the right area. I am trying to find information on my grandmother, Marie-Francoise NICOLAI(S), who served with the Red Cross, (so the story goes) in France during WW1. My grand mother was born 8/4/1897 in Bastia, Corsica and died 10/12/1976, in Newcastle, NSW Australia. Grandma married my grandfather, Stanley Gordon BRAYE (an Australian, merchant mariner, seconded, so we have been led to believe, to the R.N for WW1) in Southampton in January, 1920. On her marriage certificate it says that her father, Louis, was a French Army Officer. I presume there could be a medal or two awarded to her. I have no other information on her 'war' effort and would be very pleased if anyone can help me. I have been onto a couple of French govt sites but as I do not speak/read French I just can't seem to get anywhere. Thanking you in advance. Meggsie. James A Pratt III Posted 27 November , 2016 Share Posted 27 November , 2016 There is a book on French Women and WW I that I can't remember the title of that I believe has at least one chapter on nurses.
