bart Posted 8 December , 2004 Share Posted 8 December , 2004 Is it possible to ascertain the date of joining the regiment from the regimental number alone-7011. Bart
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 8 December , 2004 Share Posted 8 December , 2004 #7011 would be a Regular's Number from Pre War around 1905~13 @ an estimate,I am sure a KSLI Buff will be able to offer a more precise Time Frame.
BMoorhouse Posted 9 December , 2004 Share Posted 9 December , 2004 Bart, Do you have a name to go with the number? Brendon.
Light Bob Posted 9 December , 2004 Share Posted 9 December , 2004 Hi If the Number relates to the Somerset Light Infantry it would indicate that he joined about July1903. This would be in line with other enlistments in the same series of numbers. It is possible that he could have been a Special Reserve in which the Number would have had a prefix 3/. This is often not shown on numbers shown in the press. This number would probably have been issued early in 1914 just before the outbreak of war. Have you any additional information that might help. His date of birth might show whether he was old enough to enlist 1903. Brian
