Guest Ken Jones Posted 14 November , 2016 Share Posted 14 November , 2016 Captain J C Lloyd, SWB, WAS SLIGHTLY WOUNDED IN THE 1915 BATTLE OF AUBERS RIDGE BECAME AN A P M IN 1916 FOR THE FIRST DIVISION AND IN 1919 WAS DEPUTY PM OF THE ARMY OF THE RHINE WITH THE TEMPORARY RANK OF COLONEL BASED IN COLOGNE. I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT IF HE RE-ENLISTED IN 1919 AND WHEN HE LEFT THE ARMY. WERE APMs EXPECTED TO BE INVOLVED IN FIGHTING? Ken Jones

Admin kenf48 Posted 14 November , 2016 Admin Share Posted 14 November , 2016 (edited) This is his entry in Who Was Who:- LLOYD, Lt-Col Sir John Conway Kt, 1938; MC Born 1878; m 1903, Marion Clive, yr d of Maj.-Gen. William Clive Justice, CMG; one s one d ; died 30 May 1954 EDUCATION Eton; Christ Church, Oxford CAREER Sheriff of Brecknockshire, 1906; served European War, 1914–19 ADDRESS Abercynrig, near Brecon which shows only service in the 'European War'. He was awarded a commission by the Lieutenant of Breconshire dated 28th March 1919, his military rank is shown as Captain. https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/31264/page/4227 Deputy Lieutenant is a military commission but it's not military service. As you probably know the Gazette records him as Lt-Colonel when awarded his knighthood in 1938. Given his long association with the militia and Volunteers, perhaps his elevation in rank to 'Lt-Colonel' is associated with the TA (?) A very short obituary in the Times May 31 1954 has no reference to military service. Ken Edited 14 November , 2016 by kenf48
