Can anyone identify this man found on TWGPP: https://www.twgpp.org/photograph/view/4121111

Brown, Theodore
Cemetery: Little Eaton (St. Paul) Churchyard

Country: England

Area: Derbyshire

Rank: Captain

Official Number:

Unit: 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regt)

Nationality: British

Details: 23rd March 1918. Age 29.

I haven't been able to find a thing, not even a record of his death. Not even sure if he's buried at Little Eaton or just named on the headstone.

Definitely something wrong here, no mention in the 10th Battalion history, War Diary or Officers Services to the Regiment. I'm not too far from Little Eaton so I might have a look when I'm passing soon. BRONNO.

There is a Theodore Brown on the 1911 census age 22 who is described as a 'commercial clerk' living with his wife Edith age 26, at 107, Mansfield Rd., Ashton-under-Lyne.

His father Bagshaw Brown was born at Hope? Derbyshire.

Not sure if there is any connection?  But the age is certainly correct.

If the Theodore that married Edith is the one, which I agree is the most likely, he probably survived until 1976.

WW1 Memorial on Lych Gate of St Paul's, Little Eaton

G Andrew BROWN

There is a Pte 23094 South Staffs ??

G H BOROUGH - Will gives his address as Eaton Park, Duffield (near Little Eaton)

CWGC - Captain George Herbert BOROUGH Army Service Corps died 8 November 1916 (Etaples Military Cemetery)

Think closer look at inscriptions on the Family grave definitely needed.

I managed to obtain the photo from TWGPP, unfortunately it's very low res and the inscription is not clear at all. I can't even make out the name, however it does appear to say:

Capt. 10th Sherwood Foresters
Fell in action France March 2? 1918
Aged 29 years

The grave inscriptions at St Pauls Churchyard, Little Eaton were transcribed in the 1990's by Margaret Hargreaves & are now online on the website of the Little Eaton Local History Society.

https://lelhs.org.uk/st-pauls-churchyard

There are no Theodore Brown's nor any Theodore's in the index. I looked up the actual inscriptions for BROWN/BROWNE, and those with a cross as the monument, again no luck.

The only Brown grave that does not say what type of monument it is was:     D63 John Henry BROWN died 12.12.1945 age 66 and his wife Sarah Ellen Brown died 23.6.1963 age 81. Too young to be his parents, but may be relations.

I would hope that as there is a photo on TWGPP an email to the society would find a helpful person willing to do a "site visit".

Photos of nearly 280 of the monuments in St Pauls are on the findagrave website. Again no entry for Theodore Brown or photo looking like the cross in TWGPP photo, but its a large place for a parish churchyard.

Found him! Thanks to your link I was able to find what appears to be the correct inscription, little wonder I couldn't identify him as the surname on TWGPP is wrong:

Capture.JPG.4afa87828f4cd1e98b6df99ae283ec37.JPG

Listed on CWGC, and apparently also a war poet: https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/774724/theodore-percival-cameron-wilson/

Mystery solved in any case. Appreciate the help!
