I have the usual information regarding John Methven taken from CWGC but if some body has a copy of SDGW could let me know was he KIA or died of wounds. If any Blackwatch buffs are out there and have any more details I would be extremely grateful. He died on 14th July 1916 and wa therefore possibly at Battle of Le Petit Bazentin ?

Thanks

Dorrie

Sorry to butt in, could you please tell me what SDGW stands for and what is it?

I`d like to find out my father`s uncle, James Rankin. The info is in another post.

Thanks, Tam.

Hi Tam,

SDGW is Soldiers Died in the Great War, its a CD-ROM listing all who died in the war. It can be used to search a certain battalion of a Regiment or who died on a given date for example and a lot of the times lists born, lived and enlisted Towns.

Hi,

This can be purchased from Naval & Military Press.

Hi

Your man S/12647 Pte J METHVEN was published in the official wounded lists in The Scotsman newspaper on 19/08/1916, the list was compiled under Various Dates.

I would therefore surmise that he died of wounds received and was not killed outright.

He may have been wounded in the four days prior, perhaps at Contalmaison Wood or Contalmaison Villa.

He is not mentioned by name in the War Diary.
