BullerTurner Posted 11 October , 2016 Share Posted 11 October , 2016 My wife and I took delivery of our commemorative Somme poppies from the RBL Poppy Shop today. They are quite exquisite and each one comes with a card, remembering a Somme fatal casualty. Mine commemorates Sgt George Bell of the 9th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby). ive already been researching my man and found a huge amount of information on the splendid Nottingham County Council Roll of Honour web-site. Sadly Sgt Bell appears to have been killed on his birthday. As some small solace, at least he didn't experience the break in the weather the next day! After Gallipolli, Malta and Egypt that might have been insult to injury! i don't suppose anyone has any research beyond this? George Bell was one of ten children and perhaps a descendant or two of his siblings might be able to offer some more vignettes of his life? ref: http://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/rollofhonour/People/Details/21069
