I would say very early 1900s with the VR insignia and possibly that very sort space of time when the "Slouch " hat was universal headgear. Precisely! I would say after 1902 and before the formation of the TF in 1908 (at the very latest). Most VB cyclist companies (usually one per battalion) were formed 1900-1901, the slouch hat was ubiquitous between 1902 and 1905.
