melliget Posted 6 October , 2016 Share Posted 6 October , 2016 (edited) I have this slightly OCD thing where, if I happen to notice reports of casualties, even when looking for something else, I have to check them I came across this one. Temp.-Sgt. B. W. Cook, AIF (?), died of illness 2/1/1919 (see attached). He had a connection to Adamstown, NSW (near Newcastle). On CWGC: - No B. W. Cook for WW1 (any force). - 6 Australian casualties on 2.1.1919, no match. - No Cook/Cooke (any force) died on that date. Lots of AIF service records for Cooks and Cookes but no B.W. I tried narrowing it down to Newcastle related men (men from Adamstown probably would have enlisted in Newcastle) and did find one Cook from Adamstown - Arthur William Cook. However, he enlisted but was discharged not long after, following an impassioned plea from his wife (sounds like the family were in a bad way - see her letter page 12 and the army's response page 11):http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/ViewImage.aspx?B=3281298 Anyone able to find more on who B. W. Cook might have been? Thanks. Martin Edited 6 October , 2016 by melliget
