Annette Burgoyne Posted 17 May , 2003 Share Posted 17 May , 2003 Hi Bob If no one comes up with info. from Chronicle then this brief info. from 20th Div. History may help:- 6th June 1916 2.30 p.m.—Germans came over parapet towards lines of 12/R.B. (left flank of 60th Bde. line) and 11/K.R.R.C. (right flank of 59th Bde. line). Rifle fire opened on them plus artillery barrage on German trenches. A party of about thirty advancing on 11/K.R.R.C. turned back hurriedly into cover. Those on 12/R.B. front dropped into long grass and tried to crawl back. The 6th Ox. & Bucks also came under attack but the main part of the attack fell on Canadians, who lost Hooge (two mines were also fired this day, one well in front of Ox. & Bucks. line, and the other about Gully Farm destroying fifty yards of trench, which was held by 12/R.B. The next few days were spent harassing German working parties and working on own line. Line held by 20th Div. ran from about 400 yards north west of Hooge in a general north-westerly direction to a few hundred yards north west of Wieltje. I am not sure of 11/K.R.R.C. line only that it was to left of Gully Farm. Annette
Bob Coulson Posted 18 May , 2003 Author Share Posted 18 May , 2003 Annette, That's brilliant, thanks for taking the trouble to look this up for me. Anything that may come from the chronicles will be a bonus. Bob.
