Flt. Sub-Lt John Sylvan De Wilde - SQD. CONFIRMATION

A correction request was submitted to the CWGC for the record of Flt. Sub-Lt John Sylvan De Wilde as they have him listed in 3rd Naval Squadron and all other places have him listed in 10th Naval Squadron. The CWGC will not change those records without original documents, or I presume copies thereof. Can anyone on the GWF assist?

CWGC LISTING FOR J. S. De Wilde

Here is the page that has that listed on their site as well:

CWGC Register Page for J. S. De Wilde

Here are the two locations that have him with the 10th Naval Squadron that I know of:

Royal Air Force Museum Story Vault

The Aerodrome - WW1 Aircraft Search

For those that have Trevor's book, he is listed on page 121 in N6355 Sopwith Camel 10 (Naval) Sqn. Trevor does not have original documents to verify the squadron.

I can understand why the CWGC will not make the change but I thought perhaps they might check their records or ask the RAF.

Maybe a GWF Pal can help make sure he is properly commemorated.

Thanks!

There is also an excellent book by Mike Westrop called " A history of No10 Squadron Royal Naval Air Service in World War 1 ".  In this book he is listed in the roster of Pilots and it states that he transferred to no 10 Squadron from no 11 squadron on 21st September 1917 and was assigned to A Flight, he was shot down and killed on 27th September 1917.
