douglass Posted 4 December , 2004 Share Posted 4 December , 2004 I have just found that my great grandfather served with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in WW1, all i have at the moment is his army number S/16567, does this number pertain to a certain Battalion? or at least give a clue to when he joinned up. I know that one day i will have to try and find his service record (if one exists) but was just looking for a few pointers. He lived in East Lothian all his days so it may seem strange why he ended up with the Argylls but i suppose men were taken from regiments to bolster others after heavy casualties etc. any help greatly appreciated Many thanks Douglass
