I am looking at past pupils of a school in Retford Notts whilst looking at Reginald's MIC thereare 3 entries, one for the Buff East kent regiment one for the Royal Fusiliers and one for the London Regiment. Am I wrong in thinking the latter two are one of the same thing. At the time of hos death he was in the 3rd Battalion Royal Fusiliers, attached to the 2nd Battalion woud, this expalin the two entries as mentioned as he had the same Regimental number for both.

Any other information that any body can supply re Reginald will be gratefully received

Thanks

Dorrie

Hello Dorrie!

You might already have this info, but the volume of Soldiers Died in the Great War for the London Regiment gives the following:

Wood, Reginald Harold

3rd Battalion London Regiment. Posted to the 2nd Battalion Royal Fusiliers

Born: Bourne.

Enlisted: Lombard Street (lived in Retford)

Private.

Service Number :275341

Killed in action France and Flanders 13/04/1918

Formerly 2675 5th East Kent Regiment

I have done a bit of (very incomplete) research about the 3rd Battalion London Regiment, and the number Reginald Wood had (275341) comes from a block that seems to have only been used for men formerly with other regiments. If I have understood the territorial numbering system correctly , he would have kept his 3rd Londons number on posting, because the 3rd Battalion London Regiment was affiliated to the Royal Fusiliers, and was thus part of the same Regimental corps.

Hope this helps

All the best,

Tony Simmons
