Centenary Woods/G.W. Footballers.

" Footballers who fought in the First Word War will be commemorated in a woodland. English fans and league clubs will have the chance to dedicate trees in "team groves" at the Woodland Trust's First World War centenary wood at Langley Vale in Epsom, Surrey". 

 

Centenary woods are also being planted at - Dreghorn woods, Pentland hills, near Edinburgh, Scotland.   

Coed Ffos las, Camarthanshire, Wales.  

and, 

Brackfield woods, alongside the river Faughan, Derry/Londonderry, N. Ireland.

Wonder if any balls will end up getting kicked  into the nearby Jutland Wood ?

A local news website gives details of a suggested walk - lockdown restrictions allowing - at the Woodland Trust's Langley Vale site (that of the previous post) near Epsom  Langley Vale walk to explore First World War memorial woodland's new features. The new wood sculpture (Witness by John Merrill) pictured might not be to everyone's taste , but was inspired by Paul Nash's trench landscapes and will doubtless improve with aging.   This is a site that's clearly in its infancy, and one that is going to develop & mature over many years.  Further details can be found on the Woodland Trust's  web pages for the site Langley Vale Wood
