Stoppage Drill Posted 30 June , 2016 Share Posted 30 June , 2016 Ah. Just re-read thread title . . . . but I didn't catch Abide With Me, so here's a guess. The band played "Fame and Glory" at about 2120. Is that the one you're after ?
angelab Posted 30 June , 2016 Share Posted 30 June , 2016 Was Abide with Me near the beginning? I can't remember what was played before it. But I loved the solo singing of the Butterworth piece beneath the arch. Angela

As the Royals walked up to take their seats I think.

Angela It sure was; and the having heard the marvelous Butterworth piece I finally understood the significance of the last line of Butterworth's memorial at Pozieres. Pete. Honora Posted 30 June , 2016 Share Posted 30 June , 2016 Thank you for that. I was racking my brain, knowing I knew it but couldn't catch the words of Nearer my God th Thee. The Butterfield song was brilliantly done, as was the poignant readings from the individual soldiers among the gravestones. Luke Thompson, at the Abbey earlier in the evening, gave full meaning to his reading, clearly he is a Shakespearean actor of ability. Hope tomorrow offering is as good.
