mandy hall Posted 29 June , 2016 Share Posted 29 June , 2016 (edited) Tomorrow is the anniversary of the Battle of the Boar's Head. At Chichester Cathedral from 1.45 pm bell ringers will attempt a full peal to commemorate the Battle. In order to achieve a full peal they will need to ring 5000 changes and it should take just over 3 hours. http://www.chichestercathedral.org.uk/news/chichester-cathedral-commemorates-the-day-sussex-died-posted-24-june-2016.shtml http://www.eastsussexww1.org.uk/day-sussex-died/ I will be visiting St George's Chapel, The Royal Sussex Regimental Chapel, inside the Cathedral to pay my respects tomorrow and listen to the bells. David_Underdown Posted 29 June , 2016 Share Posted 29 June , 2016 While it's not stated, I'd be a little surprised if the ringing is anything other than halfmuffled (whence the name of my blog). A leather pad is attached to one side of the clapper, giving an interesting echo effect. This type of ringing is traditional associated with mourning. There will be other ringing around Sussex too http://bb.ringingworld.co.uk/event.php?id=4484
