Commemoration of the Battle of the Somme.

The Herts and Essex Shooting Association (HESA) is holding a commemorative Battle of the Somme shoot and exhibition on Saturday 2nd July 2016 at the HESA Range Seabrooks Farm, midway between Chelmsford and Braintree in Essex commencing at 14:00. This is to commemorate the opening of the Battle of the Some in July 1916.

It will include an exhibition of Great War Rifles, Pistols and Equipment which will be on show in the clubhouse. Since this is a shooting club, firearms will be live – regrettably apart from any machine guns!

One the shooting side, there will be a Commemorative Shoot using the NSRA X5 Skirmisher Target and a Poppy Appeal shoot using “Barbed Wire Targets” developed for the event. Other events and competitions will be laid-on and any small-bore rifle is eligible – particularly the SMLE in .22!

Barbeque and catering will be available.

A unique commemorative Badge will be given to all participants

All funds raised will be in aid of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal

For further details or to participate (shoot or exhibiting), contact Bob Barker 07973 203668 or secretary@hese.uk.com  or Chris Smith 01376 563684 / 07703 218639

Yes a great idea and what a touching and appropriate tribute to all those who died on the first day!

That is regrettable

I have been advised that this event is an Official Guest Day, so that non FAC holders can, in fact, shoot.

Just a quick update - the event attracted approx 120 visitors many shooting as well on "barbed wire" targets, some using .22 Enfield training rifles (a SMLE in .22 calibre). the exhibition had a pretty comprehensive range of Gt War rifles, enfields in guises and with accoutrements, Lebels, Ross, long and short Mauser 98's, Italian and Austrian rifles (Carcano, Vetterli conversions, M88 and 95 mannlichers). Pistols included all the Webleys, Colts, Smith&Wesson (inlcudign a military issue triple lock - very rare); all from members of herts & Essex and HBSA. The event also raised over £400 for RBL Poppy Fund.

Not bad for one small club over one afternoon.
