Hi!

I am trying to research a J E Howell who served in the 18th Canadian Battalion.Due to the fact his address was Deal, in Kent, England I suspect he might have been an Englishman, who, like many others enlisted in the CEF. Possibly due to this fact I am having trouble tracking down his records and would appreciate any ideas or assistance! Thank you!

Hi,

Have you searched the CEF database at LAC Ottawa?

Surnames starting with H have been digitised so you should find his papers via the below link.

Good Luck.

A bit more detail would be useful. First name(s), service number, etc.

A quick trawl through the database doesn't show any obvious match.

There is a James E Howell (originally from Cumberland) who attested at Windsor, Ontario but............

I will see if I can find him but as kenmorrison said more information like date of birth and any other particulars would be helpful. He could have attested under just his first name, for example. I believe that he may be James E. Howell, reg. no. 53237. His LAC record is at http://goo.gl/MuF9H1 and he was one of the originals, attesting in Windsor, Ontario on October 27, 1914. He is on the 1915 Battalion nominal roll.

PS: I blog about the 18th Battalion C.E.F. at https://18thbattalioncef.wordpress.com/
