Captain Ablitt of the 1/5th West Yorkshires led a party from Vierstraat to Ridge Wood on 25th April, moving to Ouderdom the next day. The 1/5th had withdrawn during the 25th from Wytscaete to Vierstraat and I wonder why Ablitt headed north leaving the remains of the Battalion at Vierstraat.

Any ideas as to why he did this, and what was happening at Ridge Wood?

Thanks

John

The diary entry of the 27th states he returned after having become detached from the battalion on 25th.
