Greg Posted 1 December , 2004 Share Posted 1 December , 2004 Orange Free State(South Africa) Defence Rifle Association Shown Rossignolis Badges of the Second World War. Could be 1920s since crowns tended to be left off in the 1930s on new badges. These were I think 'rifle clubs' sponsored by government Greg
Guest Guard 1 Posted 1 December , 2004 Share Posted 1 December , 2004 Many thanks Greg, that's just what I needed. I guess that means they were like our milita.
Greg Posted 1 December , 2004 Share Posted 1 December , 2004 If they were anything like the Australian rifle associations they were rifle clubs supported by the government rather than formed units... but I stand to be corrected by a South African pal on this one. There were other badges for the Natal,Transvaal and Cape DRAs The South Africans had their own territorials/militia which were uniformed part timers.
