Have today come across an unusually named chap amongst the KRRC Fallen.

His CWGC record ...

RIVETT, SYDNEY HARBOUR
Rank:
Rifleman
Service No:
R/16960
Date of Death:
04/08/1917
Age:
19
Regiment/Service:
King's Royal Rifle Corps, 13th Bn.
Grave Reference:
I. D. 6.
Cemetery:
DERRY HOUSE CEMETERY NO.2
Additional Information:
Son of James and Mary J. Rivett, of 4, Short Rd., Walthamstow, London.

The GRR states 'KRRC att. MGC'

SDGW has ...

RIVETT, Sidney Harbour

born Barnsbury, Middx.

enlisted Walthamstow, Essex

K.i.A.

all other details same as CWGC

Surely the parents chose this name conscious of the humour? :hypocrite:

Anyone fancy checking the census to see if they had any other children with unusual names?

Whatever, he is still remembered :poppy:

Mark

His brothers were Severn Bridge Rivett and Eiffel Tower Rivett. Sadly, that's not true, they were actually James William and George Victor (both served).

Construction of the bridge didn't commence until 1923, so he must have simply been named after Sydney Harbour. Seems fairly inexplicable.

Could just be coincidental and his grandmothers nee name was Harbour, just thinking aloud

Presumably the head of the family was known as Pop Rivett?

(Sorry - couldn't resist )
