ChrisN Posted 30 November , 2004 Share Posted 30 November , 2004 Good evening I once heard that there are three villages in the UK (or Englad) that do not have a WW1 memorial. This is because they were fortunate to suffer no deaths (but still casualties, I guess) in WW!. I cannot find confirmation of the names of these villages. Any suggestions/comment? Guest 2contemptable Posted 6 December , 2004 Share Posted 6 December , 2004 Chris There might well be other reasons why some towns/villages did not erect memorials after the war. For example, some villages etc. thought that any 'memorial' should prove to be useful or utilitarian, such as a Cottage Hospital or swimming baths. In some towns in Northern Ireland,WW1 memorials were delayed due to squabbling over the type and style of memrials. On more than one occassion monies were collected only to be returned and projects were abandoned altogether. Also in some towns and villages, work did not commence on certain memorials until the late 1920's or early 1930's. Hope this helps. James.
