StephenJohnRoberts1958 Posted 28 May , 2016 Share Posted 28 May , 2016 I have been trying to find service records for men from Belfast who fell in the Battle of the Somme. I realise that only about 20% of service records survive, but I have not been able to find any for men in this category. Does anyone know why this is the case? I have seen numerous records for chaps who lived through the war. The reason why I would like to find service records is so that my pupils can do some research into individual soldiers during our trip to the Somme in July. Ron Clifton Posted 28 May , 2016 Share Posted 28 May , 2016 Hello Stephen, and welcome to the Forum! The Somme Association is based in (or near) Belfast and they have a great deal of information on Irishmen who fell on the Somme. Here is their website: www.sommeassociation.com Ron
Ulsterdiv Posted 24 January , 2018 Share Posted 24 January , 2018 Very difficult to do so but the Irish Guards records are intact might be an alternative
