Langdon Posted 13 April , 2016 Share Posted 13 April , 2016 I'm helping a friend visiting from Oz to trace his grandfather Lieutenant Hubert Withinshaw of the RFA and specifically for what action he won the Military Cross - in, we think, 1918. I have been unable to locate an MIC for him or any military reference on Ancestry. There are 1901 and 1911 census entries there and his birth in 1896 (22nd October) and death in Anglesey in 1977. I have already used up my free subscription on FMP and have also tried unsuccessfully to access WO 389/24 MC records at the NA (on endless 'hold'). Any help that might point me to the relevant War Diaries would be very gratefully received. BTW he thinks the East Lancs might come into it somewhere.... Best wishes, Mike

Langdon Posted 13 April , 2016 Author Share Posted 13 April , 2016 Many thanks for these. The East Lancs link too. Graeme, do you think that it reads 'Templeux - 21.3.18' as in Templeux-le-Guerard (googled)? I suppose I need to check where the front line was...
