isadore Posted 22 March , 2016 Share Posted 22 March , 2016 Hi All, I have recently been reading an account of the 1916 Rising in Dublin and the author, speaking about a King Edward's Horse unit serving around Kingsbridge station, described it as a 'scratch mounted unit'. Can someone explain the term scratch to me please? Thanks Isadore

staunton Posted 27 March , 2016 Share Posted 27 March , 2016 The KEH has the same status as the North and South Irish Horse ie that of a Special Reserve cavalry regiment, part time units who unlike the pre war Territorial Force were liable for overseasservice. 1KEH served overseas and the 2KEH was in Ireland at the time of the 1916 Rising traini g ecruits.
