SOMERSET REGIMENT BADGE

All,

This badge was collected by my Grandfather in early 1940s and has been in the family's possession ever since. It is an oddity as it was originally a shoulder title that has had the lugs removed and a very solid short and stubby metal slider added a la cap badge style. This would seem to be a lot of effort for some one to go to when the originals were so common in 1940 that they cost a few pennies.

Clearly not a regular battalio badge but possibly Home Guard?

Any ideas?

This is a one-peice Somerset Light Infantry Shoulder Title introduced and the end of WW1 to replace the two peice version previously worn. It was worn by the Regiment's two Regular Battalions. Why it has been adapted I cannot say.
