DirtyDick Posted 26 November , 2004 Share Posted 26 November , 2004 Since they are replacements, you could either purchase copies sold by certain medal dealers or, for a similar price, buy an equivalent group awarded to another serviceman (but please do not erase the naming). I believe you can also buy replacements from the MoD (maybe not WW1?) but these will most likely be at a significantly greater cost. Best bet is to look on-line dealers' stock; I think Worcestershire Medal Service/Company specialises in replacement medals. Richard
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 26 November , 2004 Share Posted 26 November , 2004 Official Replacement of WW1 Medals has now ceased, from about the Mid 1970s I believe,However later Awards that have been Destroyed,Lost & the Loss Reported Officially,Stolen{ditto} can in certain Circumstances be Re~Issued as "Replacements" or "Duplicates" & are so Marked with a "D" or an "R" @ the top of the Rim by the Suspension Shoulder, either Free of Charge in Special Circumstances or on Prepayment,it is however a prolonged & necessarily complex procedure, with the Accompanying Red Tape as would only be expected. Guest Hill 60 Posted 27 November , 2004 Share Posted 27 November , 2004 Official Replacement of WW1 Medals has now ceased, from about the Mid 1970s I believe Roger - While this is true of the MOD, the Canadians do still replace lost WWI medals to members of the CEF, free of charge and with real medals! My great grandfather's 1914-15 Trio was lost in a house fire and were replaced (my nan had to request them) 4 years ago. All the best mate, Lee
