Hello,

I've just started my adventure into tracing my family tree. I'm led to believe my Grandfather was a Naval Captain, but I have very little info other than he was born in 1890 in Hull Yorkshire. His name was Arnold Eric Peek.

Can anyone here lead me to the best way of researching Naval records?

Thanks and regards

I have since found the following which was posted in his local newspaper at the time of his death.

U-BOAT KILLER Distinguished Office Dies

"Capt. Arnold Eric Peek, D.S.C. and bar, R.N.R., M.N., of No. 72 Peterborough Road, whose death at the age of 56 was hastened by war-strain and overwork, never mentioned the decoration he won during the 1914-18 war and refused honours for the liaison work between Merchant Navy and the Admiralty that he did in the last war. Son of the late Capt. and Mrs. E.R. Peek of Hull, he sank five U-boats during the first world war while in command of a flotilla of patrol vessels. He leaves a widow and one son."
