Lieutenant Colonel Edward Leyborne Popham DSO 26th KGO Cavalry

I was disappointed to not have Volume 3 of the DSO/VC book which should have Popham's citation or certification of his service. Could anyone kindly scan the relevant page for this man please. His DSO was gazetted on 17 October 1917.

Ah Peter many thanks for your quick reply. I read somewhere that he got his DSO for his time at Aden while in command of the Aden Infantry Brigade. Can anyone confirm this please?

Yes Peter I had seen this, thank you. I just wanted to know if he was in command of the Aden Field Force at the time of his awarded DSO.

He was Mentioned in Despatches for services in Aden. The gazette gives his rank as Major, published two weeks after the gazette for his D.S.O.

He was also awarded the Order of the Nile, 3rd Class.

He died in South Africa 29.7.1940. There was no Times obituary unfortunately.

He was promoted to Bt. Lt.-Col. for distinguished service in connection with military operations in Aden.
