Guest scott leader Posted 21 November , 2004 Share Posted 21 November , 2004 Pals Can anyone give me any info on the 8/York & Lancs during the 1st July 1916. Were they in the first waves, what was their objective, etc. What would be the going rate fot a confirmed first day, DCM, 1915 Trio + SWB?
Robert Dunlop Posted 21 November , 2004 Share Posted 21 November , 2004 From the British Official History: 'The assault of the 70th Brigade was at first more successful. Aided by the attack of the 32nd Division on the left, which diverted from it some of the German flanking fire from the Leipzig salient and works on the Thiepval spur, the two leading waves of the 8/KOYLI and part of those of the 8/York and Lancaster got across No Man's Land, and pressed straight over the front trench and on to the second one, but leaving untouched the trenches north-east of the 'The Nab'. Very few of the third and fourth waves, however, got across the four hundred yards of open grassland separating the two lines. At the second trench opposition stiffened and further progress of the first waves became slow, although some men entered the third trench, two hundred yards beyond. Owing to heavy casualties (21 officers and 576 ORs) the impetus of the assault was now exhausted; no reinforcements appeared, and time was given to the enemy to take measures for the defence of the gap which had been made in his line.' HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 22 November , 2004 Share Posted 22 November , 2004 What would be the going rate fot a confirmed first day, DCM, 1915 Trio + SWB? Im sure that there would be no going rate for such a group, the seller could in effect ask their own price & probably get it,an "Average" "Excellent service, did his duty etc," Citation DCM & Pair is around £1200,to a Corps/RA,So A Good Citation & Trio with confirmed War Badge,to a line regiment, who knows where it might end up,
Guest scott leader Posted 22 November , 2004 Share Posted 22 November , 2004 Harry The DCM is confirm in the Annotated DCM book, for a 1st July "Ovillres". He was a Stretcher Bearer, searched for & attended the wounded in forward trenches under heavy fire, only desisting when severlwy wounded. The price for a normal DCM Trio is arouned £1300 - £1600.
